Celebrating 100 IQ2US Debates: Watch Live

This evening, Intelligence Squared U.S. will celebrate a tremendous milestone: we will present our 100th debate.  That includes about 465 debaters. We’ve presented debates in 7 cities, and on dozens of stages, totaling more than 10,000+ minutes of rigorous public discourse and reaching millions along the way. Thanks to our brilliant staff who made it all possible, and to our loyal community for watching, listening, and, most of all, for being open to debate.

Good Deflation: a “Tax Cut” for Working Families

My latest column for the Huffington Post challenges conventional wisdom that deflation is bad.  On the contrary, deflation driven by the rapid decline in oil prices is good news for America.  Declining oil prices are, for the average family, the economic equivalent of a large tax cut.  This is one “gift horse” we shouldn’t be looking in the mouth.

Debate Introduction: Remarks on Freedom Of Speech

Freedom of expression was a topic at the center of one of our earliest debates at Intelligence Squared U.S. At the time we presented the debate, in 2006, the motion seemed like an effortless win for the proposers, with more than 83% voting in favor of the motion.  Must freedom of expression include the license to offend?
